Private saleyards expected to raise fees
25 Sep 2008

Livestock selling fees are expected to increase by up to 100 per cent as councils across south east Australia privatise saleyards. Wodonga council will vote next week on a proposal to privatise South east Australia''s largest saleyard, handling about 200,000 head per year. Anti privatisation campaigners say the control of yards will fall into the hands of two major companies, giving them a duopoly over the eastern seaboard saleyards.
