Beef exports shrug off contamination scare
8 Apr 2009

Japanese beef buyers have raised concerns about heavy metal contamination flowing from damaged flooded mine sites in North West Queensland but sales have not been affected said AgForce cattle policy director Oscar Pearse. Beef exports to Japan declined by 10 per cent in March to 30,782 tonnes and to Korea by 17 per cent *or* 10,198 tonnes. However sales were up on last year''s numbers said Meat and Livestock Australia. Overall March shipments were up 11 per cent with the USA still the biggest market for Australian beef.
