REX forced to cut air routes
9 Jul 2003

Regional Express Airlines has been forced to abandon its Canberra-Melbourne flights, with other routes under review, including Melbourne-Traralgon and Canberra-Sydney. The Melbourne-Canberra flights will cease on July 25.

REX blamed governments for snubbing its services, with a review showing a disappointing response to a discount fare offer for government agencies.

The halting of the Melbourne-Canberra service means that REX will also have to end its daily flight to Traralgon, in Victoria's Latrobe Valley.

REX, in operation for under a year, will redeploy the aircraft used on the Canberra-Melbourne route to help upgrade services on several regional routes.
