Country mourns great Outback character
5 Nov 2003

Bush legend Reginald Murray Williams died at 11.30am on Tuesday November 4, 2003, aged 95. He died at his home in Hodgsonvale, 10km south of Toowoomba. Mr Williams had been suffering from prostate cancer for two years. He is survived by his second wife Erica and eight children.

Prime Minister John Howard paid tribute to Mr Williams and described him as "a passionate advocate for rural and regional Australia". Mr Williams was "a shining example of the spirit of the great Australian adventurer, rising from the adversity of the Great Depression to write his name into history as a bush craftsman and generous sponsor of Outback ethic and culture".

The Courier-Mail, 5/11/03, page 1.
