Tas rural show bigger by a country mile 13 Apr 2004
Tasmania's Agfest is celebrating its 22nd birthday this year, and it promises to be the biggest show yet. A record number of interstate exhibitors will be coming to the event, which will be held from May 6 to May 8 at Quercus Rural Youth Park in Carrick.
From 100 exhibitors and 9,000 visitors at Symmons Plains racetrack in 1983, this year's Agfest will have more than 700 exhibitors, 200 from interstate, and an expected 75,000 visitors.
Among this year's attractions will be the Rural Youth fashion parade, sheep dog trials, four-wheel-drive track, heritage display and the Uniquely Tasmanian Fine Food Centre.
Agfest is run by members of Rural Youth, who contribute hundreds of hours each year to the event. Chairman Ian Mackenzie said if Agfest is to get any bigger it will need help from other organisations, not just Rural Youth volunteers.
