Quiet heroes need friends 10 Jun 2004
The 2004 Alcoa Regional Achievers' Awards are now open for nominations. The awards not only give people recognition for contributions to their communities, but they're also in line for a $1,000 grant, to be given to each of five winners.
Also on offer for people who have made a difference to their communities are the Kleenheat Gas Community of the Year awards. The winning community or group will receive a $2,000 grant, a perpetual trophy and a community plaque.
Nominations for both awards close on Friday, August 20. Friends and colleagues may enter other people's names. One former winner, Greg Gebhart of Moe, won the award last year for his commitment to many local projects and education initiatives. He endorsed the importance of nominating people who wouldn't nominate themselves, but are valued by others.
