Kangaroo Island should make full recovery
17 Dec 2007

Conservationists say that it could take 10 years for Kangaroo Island's landscape to recover from the fires that burnt out 100,000ha this month and took the life of one man. However there is hope for the threatened species that live on the island as there are long strips and gullies that escaped the fire which were too wet or rocky to burn. Island resident and ecologist with the Conservation Council of South Australia, Fraser Vickery, said that while concerns remain around species specific to Kangaroo Island such as the dunnart and the glossy black cockatoo, enough of every species is expected to have survived to recolonise.
