Grazier bargains for freedom 9 Dec 2004
A grazier who cleared World Heritage bushland is hoping that an offer to donate 436 hectares of his land to public ownership would be enough to keep him avoid prison over his unauthorised clearing. Vincent Boyle, 76, faced criminal charges after clearing 13 hectares of national park bushland at Killarney near the Queensland/New South Wales border in late 2001. He cleared the protected bush so his grazing cattle could move between two parcels of his own land, which were separated by the national park. The parcel of nearby land he proposes to relinquish would link two sections of Main Range National Park.
