Riverland growers gripe over grape prices 21 Feb 2005
The Riverland Wine Grape Growers' Association said that McGuigan Simeon's wine company had lowered prices for chardonnay grapes to $600 per tonne this season, almost 30 per cent lower than the $850 per tonne paid last season. The association said average shiraz grapes would be bought for $450 per tonne. However, the Hardy Wine Company will pay 30 per cent more than McGuigan. The association said lower prices for grapes were depressing land prices in the Riverland, down to around $13,000 an acre from $20,000 an acre.
