Rent reduced on ghost roads 11 Mar 2005
The New South Wales government said it would reduce road rents paid by farmers and also reduce the cost of buying the roads from the government. Many “ghost roads” exist on paper in the state, but in practice are no more than fields and bushland, and the government has no plans to develop roads identified by surveyors many years ago. However, the government owns the land and in some cases farmers want to buy the land. The NSW government agreed to reduce road rents to a flat $350 each three years. The value of land is now negotiable, which means farmers maybe able to buy their ghost roads for a low cost where the road is useless or of very low value.
