No charges over Nyngan land clearing
4 Jul 2005

The NSW Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources has not prosecuted a Nyngan farmer accused of clearing 2000 hectares of native bush, instead ordering him to fence off and remove stock from the cleared land. Department officials had pushed for a prosecution. Farmers say legislation hampers their ability to run viable businesses because of the limits set on clearing. Some farmers are so angry they have refused to allow department officers on to their properties to investigate clearing allegations.
