Gunns eyes Victorian farmland 12 Jul 2005
Forestry and timber products company Gunns will expand into Victoria, blaming the cost of timber in Tasmania. Gunns said it needed to plant another 40,000 hectares of hardwood in its home state to meet its long-term needs but faced increasing difficulty in accessing cheap land. "Gunns is not that interested in growing its forestry business anymore in Tasmania," chief John Gay said. "We can do it better in Victoria and that's probably where we'll look to expand our markets.”
