Farmers can’t afford to stop unsustainable farm practices
10 Apr 2006

The Natural Heritage Trust and the National Action Plan on Salinity have not dealt with farm areas requiring structural adjustment says a review of the programs obtained under Freedom of Information. A member of the review said that while up to 30 per cent of more profitable farmers could achieve better business outcomes through investment in environmental management, less profitable farmers could not afford to invest in change or remove unsustainable practices. The report said areas on many farms should be removed from farming.
