NSW farm values doubled over four years
21 Aug 2006

Land values for most classes of rural property had at least doubled since 2002 in northern and western New South Wales, according to Meares & Associates. However, this year's autumn listings were down by about 30 per cent. Prices had nearly trebled at Mudgee and quadrupled at Yass. Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics figures indicate the average farm size has grown from 5466 hectares in 1990 to about 6740 hectares. Each year one in 20 farmers increases the size of their property by about 25 per cent, meaning more than 30,000 farmers have sold in the past 15 years.
