More farms in Queensland
30 Aug 2006

Queensland recorded a slight increase in the number of farms in the 2004/05 financial year. The Australian Bureau of Statistics said there were 27,100 farms in the state, up from 26,800 the year before. The trend is still for consolidation of farm numbers. Gross farm product for the state increased to $5.8 billion in 2005 from $5.5 billion in 2004, though agriculture continues to shrink as a percentage of the state's output, down to 3.6 per cent from 3.8 per cent.
