Small holders in revolt over rural lands boards
18 Sep 2006

Elections for the 47 rural lands protection boards NSW close on Wednesday. The boards are responsible for managing stock routes, livestock health and pest animal control. The boards impose rates on anybody owning enough land to run 50 sheep and fund their rangers and vets. The spread of smaller “lifestyle” blocks is generating controversy over the system. The Commonsense Lands Group argues the boards make small landholders subsidise farmers.
