Dry towns face shutdown
26 Apr 2007

Two towns on the Darling Downs are almost out of water and may be evacuated. Senior Queensland bureaucrats have discussed moving residents from Leyburn which is home to 200 people and Killarney which is home to 1,500. It is costing $8,000 a week to cart water to Killarney, which is at the source of the Murray Darling river system. One of Leyburn’s two bores has run dry and the other could follow.
