Land for sale, but with strings
2 Jul 2007

The NSW Department of Lands is commencing a program to sell 10,000 leases, most of which are located west of the Blue Mountains. Leaseholders are being offered the land to purchase at around 3 per cent of market value, however if they do not take this opportunity they will be charged higher rents in future. The offer is not without its catch – 57 per cent of the leases are over land with high conservation value which would restrict the ways in which the land could be used.
