Horse stud sales pick up after EI
17 Mar 2008

The recent bout of equine flu has failed to dampen property values for horse studs. Breeder Bob Ruttley has just sold his 33-hectare Osborne Park stud in Richmond NSW for $5 million, almost double what he paid for it in 2003. Two studs in Scone, Alanbridge and Riverslea, sold recently for about $7 million and $2.9 million respectively to millionaire miner Nathan Tinkler who has combined them into one property, Patinack Farm. Gerry Harvey, who owns the nearby Vinery stud, says that horse land is different to normal farm land. "If you are breeding horses you have to have the right country and if you have good horse country it's always going up in price."
