Races cancelled due to locusts 13 Dec 2006
Yesterday a locust invasion caused the races at Mt Barker to be cancelled after stewards deemed it too dangerous. Bob Mason, Mt Barker Tuft Club Secretary, said that the locusts had not damaged the track, but they were in such large numbers they posed a safety risk for both horses and riders. Mr Mason said that the committee was still working out the financial impact of losing one of the club’s biggest meetings of the year, and that the club is discussing the possibility of rescheduling another race with Racing and Wagering WA.
