Government seeks $80 million drought rescue package
7 Feb 2007

The Victorian local government is seeking an $80 million dollars rescue package to help save drought affected pools and sports grounds. Dick Gross, Municipal Association of Victoria president, warned that many of Victoria’s sports facilities were under threat and this could possibly lead to serious health issues. Councils are permitted to water 25 per cent of their sports grounds under stage 3 restrictions which has forced many clubs to end seasons early or delay preseason training. Broadmeadows outdoor, Coburg Olympic and Brunswick indoor swimming pools have all closed in the past month due to leaks.
