Rural sports clubs in decline
23 Nov 2007

Farm production is not the only aspect of rural life to feel the effects of the drought, sporting clubs are suffering too. In West Australia bowling club membership is falling as farmers move away. At the Carnamah Bowling Club the president said that they used to have two pennant sides of 16 but have bee reduced to one men's side of 12. Football has also been hit with the Chapman Valley Football Club experiencing declining membership but they have put together a plan to secure a corporate sponsor in a bid to attract new players. President Lee Farrell said that if the community loses the club they've lost everything.
