Rural telecommunication service under threat
12 Nov 2001

The Vodafone Globalstar service, offering 100% coverage telecommunications coverage of mainland Australia, could be offloaded by the organisation according to a draft document prepared by Vodafone COO, Mr Graham Maher. The report suggested that Vodafone Australia needs to slash its workforce by 50% and adopt a number of additional cost cutting operations in order to increase efficiency. The suggestion that this may involve the company “exiting” the Globalstar product will have the greatest impact for rural and regional Australians, for whom the service specifically caters. “Vodafone to cut staff by 50%”, AFR, p3
