Proof required for GM-free crops
28 Nov 2001

Farmers who wish to supply foods free of genetic modification have been warned to establish careful documentation systems to prove their crop's GM free status. Food processors such as Unilever and Goodman Fielder are insisting their suppliers develop these identity preservation systems to maintain consumer confidence as new national GM labelling regulations come into effect on December 7. The new laws will require that all foods containing more than 1 per cent of genetically modified material be labelled accordingly. 'Gene screen', The Weekly Times, 28/11/01.
