Rural Internet usage at 34% 3 Jan 2002
New Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures into Internet access in Australia have found that around 34% of farms used the Internet in June 2000. It also demonstrates that nearly 60 per cent of Australian farms, with agricultural operations estimated at a value of at least $A5,000, used a computer in June 2000. The Northern Territory reported the highest portion of farmers using a computer.
The ABS also found that higher prices and improved yields for most crops, wool, meat and milk helped farm incomes to an 11% jump in the 2000-01 financial year.
