Legume research to reduce cattle bloat
1 Feb 2002

Australian researchers have found that their genetic research in plants could help farmers reduce bloat in cattle which results in an estimated cost to Australian farmers of approximately $50 million a year.

The preliminary results of research being undertaken by the CSIRO were presented in Armidale last week.

Their research is looking genetically moulding pasture legumes to make condensed tannins which will confer bloat safety.
