WA farmers support GM crops
15 Apr 2002

The Pastoralists' & Graziers' Association of WA and WAFarmers has formerly thrown their support behind genetically modified (GM) crops, stating that WA will fall behind the rest of the world if it fails to embrace biotechnology.

At this stage, no GM crops have been planted in WA, yet GM canola is to be introduced by the end of 2003.

The WA organisations believe that it will cost more to become involved in GM crop production at a later stage and that, despite the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator having relaxed its controls, politicians have held farmers back.
