Red rooster bares all 22 May 2002
An Israeli geneticist has unveiled a selectively bred featherless chicken called, unsurprisingly, “the naked chicken”. The creator claims that the bird is fast-growing, low in calories and environmentally friendly. And the birds won’t need plucking, which will speed up the slaughter process by tens of seconds. The red-skinned chicken was engineered by cross-breeding a small bare-skinned bird with a regular broiler chicken.
Animal rights campaigners have condemned creators of the featherless fowl for producing “walking roast chicken factories”.
