Anderson backs full sale of Telstra
13 Oct 2003

The Nationals' leader John Anderson expressed his support for the full privatisation of Telstra at the party's federal conference in Canberra yesterday. But Mr Anderson also reiterated his vow that it would not happen unless part of the proceeds went to extra spending on telecommunications services and infrastructure in the bush. Conference delegates later passed a motion demanding that a "defined and known" portion of the sale proceeds had to go to both telecoms and environmental projects in regional and rural areas.

The Nationals' federal leader Andrew Hall said the party had confirmed its position that a further Telstra sell-off will not occur unless certain conditions are met, including the implementation of the Estens inquiry recommendations that country telecoms services be equal to those in metropolitan areas.

Australian Financial Review, 13/10/03.
