Councils discuss GM crops
12 Mar 2004

A forum of Victorian local government council representatives, to be held in Creswick this weekend, will discuss genetically modified crops. The councils have been asked to inform the Victorian Government by the end of April whether they want GM crops to be released in the state.

Hepburn Shire deputy mayor Heather Mutimer said that given the moratorium deadline next month, 12 shires and cities have been invited to the regional forum. Council staff, councillors and residents will be given the opportunity to put forward their views. Cr Mutimer said she hopes the forum will provide information to and valuable feedback from local farmers and residents to enable councillors to make a considered decision on the GM issue.
