Investments reap water savings
11 Nov 2004

Water savings and productivity gains are feasible for farmers forced to work with reduced water rations. One Sydney tomato grower, Richard Thurbon from T&W Greenhouse Supplies, is earning $66,000 per megalitre of water used, compared with a national average of just $577. Peter Schulz, from Salmon Gums Estates in South Australia’s riverland reduced water use on their vineyard from 11ML per hectare to 8.9ML thanks to automatic, 15 minute monitoring of soil moisture at deep root and drainage level.
