Feds deflect Nats over fibre cable for the bush

A report by the Nationals' think tank, the Page Research Centre, wants the government to build and own a fibre optic cable network, which it reckons will cost as little as $7 billion. Telstra estimates that a fibre optic network could take 20 years to build, and cost $30 billion. And the federal government wants the private sector to pay.
