Feds extend broadband subsidies
8 Jul 2005

The federal government said it would spend $50 million to subsidise the introduction of broadband telecommunications services in the bush. The Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme provides incentive payments to internet service providers. The Department of Communications estimates broadband take-up in regional Australia was similar to the rate in metropolitan areas at around 20 per cent.
