GM tolerance thresholds set
8 Nov 2005

GrainCorp said NSW grain growers would not be liable for any unintended presence of genetically modified canola in their crops this harvest. State and federal agriculture ministers have set a tolerance level of 0.9 per cent for canola crops contaminated with GM grain. The Primary Industries Ministerial Council also decided to set a GM level for commercial seed at 0.5 per cent for 2006 and 2007, then to lower it to 0.1 per cent. GrainCorp said it would not require growers to make a declaration about the GM status of their canola crops.
