Optus extends rural coverage
31 Jan 2007

Singtel Optus will invest in a third generation (3G) network in regional areas aimed at breaking Telstra’s Next G monopoly in rural and regional Australia. It plans to spend up to $800 million providing 3G services to the area covered by the 2G network. The Optus 3G network will cover 96 per cent of the population when it is finished in 2010. This will allow competition in areas which only have access to Telstra’s Next G network.
