New crops launched by plant breeders
16 Mar 2007

Plant breeders in Australia and New Zealand are preparing to launch four new crops bred for South Australia’s high rainfall zones. The grains were cross bred in New Zealand nurseries and are designed for areas that receive more than 600 millimetres of rainfall and are resistant to all rust diseases. The head of CSIRO Plant Industries, Doctor Jeremy Burdon, says the crops are showing superior quality and yields.
