Toad proof fence may save WA
16 Mar 2007

A team of experts believe they may have found a solution to keep the toads out of Western Australia. Tests using 60cm high shade cloth attached to a 4.2 kilometre stretch of station fencing succeed in keeping toads out, as the animals cannot jump very high. Traps were sent at intervals along the fence to catch toads as they tried to find a way around the barrier. The traps caught 171 toads during a six day trial on the boundary of Gregory National Park. The Stop the Toad Foundation is confident that the method, combined with other measures will delay the advance until a biological solution is developed.
