Victoria reconsiders GM crops
23 May 2007

Victorian premier Steve Bracks has recently returned from the world's largest biotechnology conference and is thought to oppose the current moratorium on genetically modified crops in that state. A three-person panel has been appointed to look at the economic impact of the moratorium on Victoria and make a recommendation whether it should be allowed to expire next February or extended. The Victorian Farmer's Federation would support a lifting of the ban, citing evidence that GM Canola did not create market access problems for exports.
