Green war heats up
31 May 2007

The federal Coalition and Labor parties are duelling over who has the better policy on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Coalition has now said that it is willing to look at long term targets for reducing the gases but reinforced that it would not be a "figure plucked out of thin air" and that protection of the economy would be paramount. Yesterday Labor announced that it would establish a carbon trading system by 2010 and order government departments to buy green energy. The Labor leader is also buying a petrol/electric hybrid car.
