War of words over mobiles
14 Aug 2007

Telstra has hit back at criticism of its Next G mobile network saying that a report by Kondinin Group was 'amateurish'. The Kondinin report found that farmers in fringe coverage areas were better off with the old CDMA handsets but Telstra said that the method was "...very amateurish. It wasn't testing the strength of the signal". Kondinin said that it was pretty straightforward to see whether or not you could make a call using the Next G handsets and a couple of the CDMA handsets. A grazier based 42km northeast of Esperance said that he was delaying the shift to Next G as he can make a call with his CDMA handset while the Next G handset won't even get a signal.
