Telstra says it is ready to shut down CDMA
16 Oct 2007

Telstra has said that it is confident that conditions for closing its old CDMA network as the third-generation Next G network provides coverage that is better than or at least equal to the old network, a condition imposed by Communications Minister Helen Coonan in August. According to Telstra it has conducted extensive testing of the network and, since the launch of Next G last year, has added 45 locations that were not previously covered, even under the CDMA network. The Australian Communications and Media Authority will commence its own testing of the coverage as soon as today and will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete. Telstra aims to migrate over 1 million users from CDMA to Next G by January and has offered customers a one-off $100 credit on their next bill if the switch before November 13.
