Victorian GM panel criticised 6 Dec 2007
As the battle continues over genetically modified crops in some states the head of the Victorian government's review panel, which recommended lifting the state's ban on some GM crops, has been accused of not being impartial. Sir Gustav Nossal is founder and director of a consultancy called Foursight, which links bioscience research with business. Spokesman for Biological Farmers of Australia, Scott Kinnear, said that Sir Gustav is the director of a commercial company which could stand to benefit from the lifting of the ban so was no independent. The Victorian government has said that it was aware of Sir Gustav's role in Foursight and that, as one of Australia’s most respected scientists, was appropriate to conduct the review.
