NextG coverage letting farmers down
7 Jan 2008

While Telstra is pushing ahead with plans to switch off the CDMA mobile phone network on January 28, many farmers are not happy with the replacement NextG service. Angus Church who has a property near Walgett in NSW says that he can only use his new LG phone if it is plugged into an expensive car kit which means that he cannot use it as soon as he leaves his vehicle. At Peak Hill a farmer who is also bushfire brigade group captain, Peter Cannon, was recently dealing with a haystack fire when he found that his LG phone had no coverage, which he says was not the case with his old CDMA phone. The government is waiting on a report about the NextG network before deciding if Telstra will be allowed to switch of the CDMA system.
