GM the way to boost production
13 May 2008

Scientists have told the government that agricultural production could be increased by as much as $8 billion if genetically modified crops were widely used in Australia. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics says that switching to altered forms of wheat, rice, soy beans and maize could improve yields while reducing the amount of pesticides used. The only GM crops grown in Australia presently are cotton and carnations, with 90 per cent of the total cotton crop using the GM variety.
