Domestic wine sales up 3pc

Wine sales within Australia increased by 3.3 per cent in September 2003, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Sales rose to 34,761 million litres, with red wine and rose sales increasing by 6.1 per cent and white wine sales up by 4.8 per cent.

However, exports of wine in volume overseas fell by 12.9 per cent in the month of September; they were down also in value by 6.2 per cent to $210.5 million. But figures for the September 2003 quarter show that total exports fell just one per cent to $636.5 million, compared with $642 million for the September 2002 quarter.
