WA's red wine glut
11 Dec 2003

Western Australian producers have an oversupply of red wine, brought about by a glut of red wine grapes. Millions of litres are still sitting in storage tanks and need to find buyers, as the tanks will soon be needed for the 2004 vintage.

Sarah Dent, CEO of the WA Wine Industry Association, said some producers are facing financial ruin if they don't find a market for their wine soon. She said there was a 165 per cent increase in WA's area planted with vines in the four years to June 2002. As a result, about five million litres are still in tanks waiting to be sold.

The Advertiser, 11/12/2003, p.30
