Evans Tate blasts industry association over WA wine glut claim 15 Dec 2003
Western Australia's largest wine producer, Evans Tate, has criticised claims by the WA Wine Industry Association that the state is facing an oversupply of red wine. Evans Tate's CEO Franklin Tate said the claims were inaccurate and misleading. He dismissed comments that there was a glut caused by an oversupply of red-wine grapes and that WA producers only had a few weeks to find buyers for millions of litres of red wine.
Mr Tate said WA's wine industry is not homogenous: there are nine different growing regions. He said he was not aware of any glut of red wine. Mr Tate also criticised the industry association and said its role is to assist producers to grow the regional brand and build markets. Its comments have done "little to help this cause", he said.
