Wine sales up in February

Australian domestic wine sales rose 5.7 per cent to 35 million litres in February, according to Bureau of Statistics figures. Red and rose wine sales increased 5.3 per cent, while white wine sales rose 3.3 per cent. Sales for February 2004 were up 5.9 per cent on February 2003.

Wine exports also increased in February, up 20.5 per cent to a value of $189.4 million, with the quantity rising by 22.4 per cent. Exports for the 2003-2004 financial year have increased to $1.5 billion, putting sales on track to reach $2.5 billion by June. The UK is the No 1 destination and accounted for $74 million in sales in February. The US bought $59 million worth, followed by Canada at $15.6 million and Germany at $7.1 million.
