Margaret River vinegar
25 May 2004

Western Australia's revered Margaret River wine industry is being forced to turn its award-winning reds into vinegar due to the red grape glut. Wine producers have found a new customer in Anchor Foods, which will convert premium Margaret River wine into high quality vinegar. Anchor's MD David Clapin said gourmet vinegars are highly appreciated in Europe and used for many purposes, even on desserts.

Eight of 14 vats for the project arrived from SA's Seppelt Winery yesterday. Mr Clapin said the gourmet vinegars are expected to be available within 12 months.

The plan was welcomed by Margaret River wine industry figures, but there was a concern that any product using the Margaret River name should maintain the integrity required in the wine industry.

The West Australian, 25/5/04.
