Record crush beckons for wine producers
13 Jan 2005

The wine grape harvest in Australia looks like it will be a record, with estimates for the harvest ranging from 1.9 million tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes. Last year’s crush was 1.86 million tonnes. Hardy Wine Co said it expected the crush to be 10 per cent higher than last year’s crush of 330,000 tonnes. With domestic wine sales increasing by four per cent a year but export sales increasing by about 15 per cent a year, wine producers will have to count on sustained growth in the export market to sell their product.
